ravings and rambles

cockroach

there we were
face to face
all I had wanted to do
was get the laundry
and go to bed

but now I am confronted
with him
I am forced to gaze
upon this hideous form
with his brown shiny body
he immediately disgusts me
and yet here we are

thrust into this moment
compelled to deal
with each other
but suddenly something
tells me to look closer
to study him

I see the fine hairs
protruding out
of his glistening legs
symmetry in the wings
that are vaguely concealed
and rarely ever used
such finely crafted detail
can only be of the One

and then I look at his face
his alien perfect features
just beneath his gracefully
swaying antennae
into his coal black eyes

staring deeply into the void
i see gazing back at me
studying my innermost being
the faceless face
from those two tiny onyx
windows
looking back at me

I see the face of God

mirror beast

there is a beast among us

his casual shirt
is pressed and clean
skin beneath taut to reveal
good solid muscle structure
not one strand of hair amiss
perhaps a day of facial growth
to camouflage the image machine
each movement and gesture
choreographed to portray
it's "naturalness"
an unassuming manner
to put all at ease
this beast is pleasant
to all five senses

but make no mistake

much more insidious is he
than the others
who reveal their treachery freely
for beneath this shining chrome veneer
there is a miasma
of rusted rotting decadence
taking joy in the suffering of others
beneath a gloss of compassion
salivating at each morsel of violence
behind a facade of peace
marinating in ravenous envy
cloaked by a thin coat of encouragement
measuring each event and incident
by what it means to him
twisting turning slanting each
to roll the ball in his favor

I have seen him closely
and he has seen me

ah yes my friend
be EXTREMELY careful of this one
lest you become infected
and see his face
in the reflective glass before you
